The National Press Photographers Association explains how Chuck Kennedy made the picture of President Barack Obama taking the oath of office as the 44th President of the United States using a remote control camera.
He used a Canon EOS 5D Mark II with a 16-35mm, f 2.8 lens and Canon’s wireless transmitter. The camera was mounted inside a Pelican case to baffle the sound and anchored with a Bogen arm.
The camera was wired via Ethernet for transmission through a DSL line at Kennedy’s position behind the platform. The camera was triggered via a hardwire to eliminate radio interference. The photographs were sent to McClatchy-Tribune via the Canon WFT-E4A transmitter immediately via DSL line and moved on the pooled wire within minutes.
BridgeWave, a 60 and 80 GHz backhaul vendor, was used to provide a network backbone for mission critical agencies such as the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police, FBI, CIA, Secret Service and National Guard.

The first time I’ve seen this. And it wasn’t there yesterday. An add in an iPhone app. It appears on iPage Rank, a free app I’m still trying out because it still has some bugs and has been getting updates.
In case you haven’t done this yet, you can take screen shots of your iPhone by holding down the home button and then pushing the top button.
Spotted on my iPhone screen via AppShopping, my latest “new apps” finding source, ReachMyFile, a remote file access service for your iPhone.
In their own words:
Look for files on your remote home or office computer and download those files to your iPhone or iPod touch or email them to a friend or colleague.
ReachMyFile is designed with privacy and security in mind. Your data stays on your computer or iPhone and is only transferred across the encrypted network link when you want.
The newly released Payback app at $ 6.99 is described an “a Grand Theft Auto-style game”, available in 6 languages.
Fingergaming gives it a good review:
Payback includes nearly all of the features and details seen in Grand Theft Auto’s early days, and comes complete with a similar overhead viewpoint. Players will carjack dozens of different vehicles and travel through 11 different cities to complete missions and cause a good deal of general mayhem.
Early App Store customers have given good reviews.
My take? The birds eye view ruins the game, the people are so tiny, you can barely see them. So basically the game is made up of cars and trucks that drive around and blow up (I couldn’t even figure out how to “answer the phone” (where is it?) – which gives you your mission). I’m familiar with the highly successful GTA video game, but I’m not a real gamer. So you may want to see for yourself. Check out YouTube demo.
Intel today released new software that let its Centrino 2 notebooks create personal area networks. The software lets notebooks create short range Wi-Fi networks of up to eight devices such as photo frames, cameras and printers in addition to its link to an access point.
EE Times explains the product is an effort to add value to Intel’s Wi-Fi chips. While some OEMs adopt the entire Intel chipset platform, others substitute Wi-Fi chips from Atheros or other suppliers.
Notebooks can already create personal area network connections with Bluetooth or other technologies. Startup Ozmo released a streamlined Wi-Fi chip geared for PANs in June.
The Intel software creates a virtual second Wi-Fi link on existing Intel 5100 and 5300 Wi-Fi chips used in Centrino notebooks. It taps the Internet Connection Sharing facility in Windows Vista to give the virtual personal area network a connection to the Internet.
Intel also released its so-called Intel My Wi-Fi graphical user interface to manage the net on Vista. The software supports a handful of Wi-Fi security protocols including WEP, WPA and WPA2, reports EE Times.
Sony joins the CES product launches with the announcement of its new Cybershot mobile phone – the C510 which was previously nicknamed “Kate”.
