The 113th Boston Marathon (course map) today was won by an Ethiopian man, Deriba Merga, and a Kenyan woman, Salina Kosgei. But it also was the best day in Boston for U.S. runners since 1985. Ryan Hall of huge Bear and Kara Goucher of Portland, Ore., each finished third.

Just minutes ago the CEO of Boston-based FitnessKeeper, which makes an iPhone run-tracking application called RunKeeper, crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon with a very respectable time of 3:55:07. Not bad for someone wearing a lycra iPhone costume. He placed 14,217th in a field of more than 26,000. perhaps Jason Jacobs’ foot injury wasn’t quite as bad as he was suggesting last week.
Runkeeper is an iPhone app that allows you to record the times that you have run, how fast, and where. So far it’s only been a free, ad-supported app. Now Runkeeper is introducing its first ‘pro-only’ feature: audio cues that read out loud the details of your Runkeeper session at set intervals.
WBZTV and Universal Sports provided steaming video of the race, while TheFinalSprint.com provided constant textual updates throughout the race.
